THE PEOPLE'S COUNTRY CLUB

Bethpage State Park is a mecca for golf featuring five golf courses including the world-renowned Black Course, which hosted the U.S. Open in 2002 and 2009 and was
designed by noted architect A.W. Tillinghast. Due to the Park being public yet still

decades as "The People's Country Club."

ANDREW WILSON    Head Golf Course Superintendent

I have served Bethpage my entire career—I began on the clubhouse grounds crew before moving to golf maintenance in 1997.  Soon after the announcement was made that Bethpage would host the 2002 US Open, I enrolled at Rutgers knowing I wanted to pursue a formal career in maintenance and remain on at Bethpage. Since my beginning here, I have served as Assistant on the Black Course, Superintendent of the Green Course, Overall Assistant Golf Superintendent and my current position as Head Golf Superintendent.

Bethpage is a fast paced work environment where we strive to provide the public with high quality conditions on a daily basis. Interns can gain a wealth of experience in a short time with the scale of the facility and amount of projects we undertake and events we host each year.

MICHAEL HADLEY    Black Course Superintendent

After graduating from Penn State University, I was given the opportunity to come work at Bethpage State Park. I visited the park in 1997 and could not believe a U.S. Open was going to be held there in five years. The transformation of the Black Course was unbelievable.  All five courses have come a long way since that initial visit. Working at two U.S. Opens was a tremendous experience.

There is a constant push to bring up the level of each course. I don’t believe there is another place that could have taught me or let me experience as much as I have at Bethpage State Park.
